What is the best skin care advice you've ever received?
Start with less - you can always add more!
What is your favorite place to shop for beauty products?
I do love shopping for products at department stores, but I've been visiting Pharmaca a lot recently for my beauty needs. They have several locations in Seattle, and it's an all-natural pharmacy with a great beauty and skincare section. They have well-known all-natural brands like Jurlique and Weleda, as well as smaller, local beauty companies. That's where I discovered Jane Iredale too! I love that you can test out all of the products in the store and a homeopathist will help you select the best products for your skin type. They also let you take home samples to use before deciding to buy a full-size product.
What is your favorite fragrance?
I have several designer perfumes that I wear from time to time, but my all-time favorite fragrance is Lollia Eau De Parfum in 'In Love' from Anthropologie. It's floral, but not too sweet, with a slight hint of sunscreen. A very warm fragrance.
What are your favorite beauty product splurges?
My favorite makeup splurge is lip products. Everything else in a makeup routine is part of a routine - you pick powder that matches your skintone or mascara that serves a specific purpose - but lips are based on your mood or the occasion so it's more fun. I recently bought YSL Rouge Volupté Lipstick in Sheer Candy. The packaging is gorgeous the formula is so silky.
What products do you use for your everyday makeup look?
After washing my face, I spray on Gabriel Organics Red Seaweed Purifying Tonic. This product hydrates my skin and reduces redness before I apply makeup. I don't use a moisturizer because I don't like the feeling of it on my skin. Instead, I use Jane Iredale Amazing Base Loose Mineral Powder in Golden Glow, which has SPF 20. Then I use a Diorblush Glowing Color Powder Blush in Sunkissed Cinnamon instead of a bronzer because it gives me a warm glow without the obvious definition of a bronzer. Then I use a MAC Sheertone Shimmer Blush in Trace Gold as an eyeshadow because it has just a hint of color and a very light, fine shimmer. To accentuate my eyes, I use a MAC eyeliner brush to apply a thin line of powder eyeliner right at the lash line. The eyeliner powder I've been using recently is L'Oreal's Wear Infinité Eye Shadow in Lush Raven. I used to use a MAC eyeliner powder but the L'Oreal one works just as well and is half the price. The most important part of my routine is mascara, and I apply about 20 layers of it! I start by curling my eyelashes with a Revlon eyelash curler. Next, I use Revlon Stiletto Mascara in Very Black and apply thin layers of it until I have to run out the door. The last part of my routine is I swipe on Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Balm in Red Dahlia or MAC Tinted Lip Conditioner SPF 15 in Petting Pink.
